It’s an expression made famous by Bill George, this sense of finding our true purpose. This is a quest that is easy to muse on forever and ever. The key to this is not just to stop seeking this out; but take action, and step outside of your comfort zone to explore, fail, learn, grow and get that once step closer to feeling fulfilled by the actions you take in your life instead of feeling stuck.

Bill George’s 30 questions have us think more deeply about what our true north is, and is a great exercise to challenge our current status quo. It forces us to ask ourselves, are we stepping into positive action in our life?

My boys are facing the fun of subject selection for school, and there seems to be so much pressure to pick “the right” subjects. Will it give them the greatest options at the end of the two years? Will they struggle or excel? When I stop and reflect, I realise that the act of choosing is all that is “right”. It is positive action, and it will lead to where it leads, and there is nothing wrong with that. I find I can get caught up wondering whether something is the right path or not so much, that I stop, and don’t walk down any path. This is me being stuck, paralysed by the thought that “what if it’s the wrong direction” – well, how will I know unless I step into action: channel some courage and walk down it regardless of my uncertainty.

I enjoy writing for fun and writing to help others. I strive to have huge impact on the world, so making a difference just for one person doesn’t seem like I am playing big enough – I expect more of myself. The problem with this is that I get stuck on what that huge impact looks like and sit still, instead of taking a stroll.

Steps I will take: To take a stroll… and just write! for fun, to share, for no one, for myself, for anyone who cares to read it, for those who need it. This means taking the risk each and every week to write AND PUBLISH on my website a piece of musings for all to see. Rough edges and all.

Wish me luck.
